Some big news for all those wannabe ninjas and Strider fans out there, as Capcom has revealed today at San Diego Comic-Con that a new Strider title is in development.
With a preview of the new Strider game being shown on stage, fans at Comic-Con witnessed the new side-scrolling adventure using 3D graphics, as Strider explored and fought through non-linear levels with some new upgrades and his signature sword, the Cypher. These upgrades shown in the preview gave Strider a boost in his fighting performance, like one which gave the Cypher blade some fire proprieties as each swing set the enemies ablaze, and the “fire gates” upgrade, which allowed our hero to reflect enemy projectiles back at them.
One other feature shown in the preview was the “plasma scarf”, which will now replace the old red cloth one. This new scarf is going to change colors depending on the skills Strider has been equipped with.
Seemingly borrowing elements of Konami’s Castlevania series (especially Symphony of the Night) Strider will have huge world map to explore, with many of the areas having to unlocked as he gains more new skills.
The new Strider game has been in development at Double Helix games, with a 2014 release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
