Atlus has revealed some sales figures today for two of their most notable recent games. The somewhat controversial Dragon’s Crown has shipped 800,000 copies worldwide. They have also revealed that Persona 4 Golden has shipped 700,000 copies. These figures include the download numbers as well.
Feeling somewhat celebratory, Atlus will be selling both games for a discount in Japan starting on the 11th. This sale is limited to Japan and only for the downloadable versions. Atlus’s charitable mood ends on January 8th.
Dragon’s Crown was released for the PS3 and Vita back in July in Japan before coming out in other territories in the following months. It stirred up some controversy due to its rather salacious art style, but ultimately most reviewers were able to look past that, praising the solid gameplay.
The Vita exclusive Persona 4 Golden came out first in Japan back in June 2012 before reaching other territories. Although selling less than Dragon’s Crown did, the number is notably high considering the install base of the Vita.
Keep in mind that these are shipment numbers and not sell-through numbers. For all we know, there may be a Walmart warehouse with 799,999 copies of Dragon’s Crown just sitting around. But that’s rather unlikely.
