Gust’s newest RPG for the PS3, Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is a followup to Atelier Ayesha, which only recently came over to the West. Although Gust has not revealed which characters will return in the sequel, they did hint that the time gap between the games is not so great.
Escha & Logy takes place in and around The Center. It’s a city where alchemists research the ancient ways in hopes of combatting the Dusk–a major disaster that the people fear.
As in previous Atelier titles, the words following it -Escha and Logy- are the names of the main characters, and this time you have a choice of two. The two characters you have to choose from supposedly have very similar storylines, while at the same time offering different events and endings. Sound like a contradiction? Read on. Maybe it’ll make sense in a minute.
Escha is a country girl living on the outskirts of The Center, and her family has some connection to the ancient alchemy. Her story is meant to be more lighthearted, focusing on her daily life and taking after other games in the Atelier series.
On the other hand, the “cool” Logy is apparently in The Center purely on business, and represents a departure from the Atelier tradition. His story is said to be darker, and geared more towards traditional RPG fans. The character choice is meant to appeal to those who want a classic Atelier experience as well as players that prefer something different.
Regardless of which character you choose both will appear in the story, working together and building trust. Gust says that this friendship dynamic will be very important to the plot.
Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is set for a Japanese PS3 release on June 27th.
