Cheer, up, Ace Attorney fans. We may be getting Ace Attorney Investigations 2 after all. It just won’t be on a cartridge on the DS.
This is not unusual. Ace Attorney (known then as Gyakuten Saiban) was originally published on the Game Boy Advance. However, extraordinarily high import rates led Nintendo and Capcom to localize it (and very well too). The updated version (with a new case) was released worldwide on the DS.
In an “Ask Capcom” stream earlier this week, Senior VP of Consumer Software( Christian Svensson) stated that localization talks were ongoing, but it would not be on the DS cartridge.
If we are to consider the different options for an AAI2 release we have four main options. Least likely, in my opinion, is the E-shop. The game is rather big for a DS or a 3DS download. Next is a WiiWare download like the original games. Third we have the IOS devices. The Ace Attorney series was recently released in HD on the iTunes store. For right now, it’s Japan only – and there are a few kinks to work out- but the possibility is there. Finally there is the 3DS. While no AA game has been released in 3D, an upgrade is possible. Plus, while the system for AA5 has not been announced, it is reasonable to assume it will be on the 3DS and it would therefore provide practice for the programmers and Capcom.
Again, nothing is confirmed, but it’s nice to know that there is the possibility of seeing more about Miles and Gregory Edgeworth.
