Cyberstep on February 22nd, 2013, opened up the teaser website for their upcoming MMORPG, Onigiri. The website is going to contain all of the information about Onigiri, including media, descriptions, information about the upcoming alpha and beta tests, and any other details. While there is currently not a great deal of information available about the game, there’s enough available for me to be able to give you a brief rundown.
From the looks of it, Onigiri seems to be a fairly standard MMORPG. That being said, there seem to be a couple of interesting factors that definitely need pointing out. They make sure to point out their battle system, which will apparently allow players to change their weapons instantly, opening up a wide variety of skills to use. I’m not sure if they’re doing something original with this idea or what, because this definitely won’t be the first game to do this, by far.
But there is one thing that I’m seeing on the official website that is definitely catching my interest. Besides being able to party with other players, ‘your brave companions will accompany you!’ It seems that each player will have access to 8 companions, who not only come with them into battle but also bring other value to the table, including specialty shops and the like. I’m personally really hoping for something outstanding with this feature, because it could really go either way.
It seems that the 8 companions include the following from Japanese history and/or folk legend, as well as others: Momotarou, Kaguya, Yoshitsune, and even the deities Susanoo and Amaterasu. They list some specialties for the characters on the teaser website, which make them seem a bit like NPCs with some combat value, but we’ll just have to wait and see I suppose. Though, I’m not sure how long we’ll have to wait, as the game hasn’t even entered alpha testing yet. The website lists the alpha test as “coming soon,” so in the meantime, enjoy the images of these characters from Onigiri, at least one of which the teaser video is leading me to believe might be a player character.
