NPD Sales Numbers are in, but where is Xenoblade Chronicles? Didn’t an analyst predict that Xenoblade would be #3 on the charts?
Here’s the answer: Xenoblade Chronicles is not on the charts. But not for the reason why you might think. Xenoblade Chronicles is considered a “retailer exclusive” due to a publishing agreement with GameStop, and as such, does not qualify to be listed on the charts.
To sum it up, as a “retailer exclusive”, Xenoblade Chronicles does not meet the qualifications to be listed on the NPD charts. This is not an indicator of failure or success.
Did Xenoblade do well? We don’t know. We don’t have any numbers on that. Nintendo of America does not release sales data for software sold directly from their online store, and other retailers, such as eStarland and Play Asia, were not officially authorized retailers of the game.
We may never know how many copies Xenoblade Chronicles actually sold unless GameStop and Nintendo of America release those numbers.
