Developer Piranha Games has announced that the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries – Legend of the Kestrel Lancers expansion is coming late next week. It will arrive on PC (Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games store), as well as on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The expansion arrives next Thursday, September 23rd.
This time around, the developers are going with a more story-focused approach than with past expansions. The Legend of the Kestrel Lancers expansion takes place in the “Fourth Succession War”. It includes 14 missions and 7 “Battle Quests” on custom, futuristic battlegrounds. It represents one of the most famous conflicts of BattleTech lore. The expansion also features new Mega Cities far larger than any seen before in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Players can also look forward to 20 new Mech variants, procedurally generated missions, new Jungle & Tourmaline Desert biomes, and more.
Alongside the paid Legend of the Kestrel Lancers expansion, Piranha Games will also drop a free update to the base game. It will add melee combat to MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, allowing players to swing and punch. Players will also now be able to switch between any AI-controlled Lance Mechs on a mission. This means you can switch from one Mech to another at the push of a button!
Here are some key features of the Legend of the Kestrel Lancers expansion, highlighted by Piranha Games:
- Story Rich Campaign: Set during the “Fourth Succession War,” one of the most famous periods of conflict in BattleTech lore, players can look forward to an epic 14-mission campaign complete with custom dialogue
- Urban Warfare: Explore and destroy Mega Cities significantly larger than any Urban Centers previously in the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries
- All-Out War: These grand-scale scenarios are designed to make the player feel like their Mercenary company is part of a larger force at play on the field of combat
- New Biomes: The operatic scope of the campaign’s original story calls for equally impressive environments. Players can look forward to exploring new Mega City, Jungle, and Tourmaline Desert biomes on their journey across the galaxy
