So you’ve adventured through the vast lands of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With today’s launch of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on Nintendo Switch, it’s now time to venture into the past to experience what happened 100 years prior to Link’s most recent adventure. Players will finally get to witness for themselves the Great Calamity that brought the Kingdom of Hyrule to its knees. Link will fight alongside Zelda and the four champions (Daruk of the Gorons, Mipha of the Zora, Revali of the Rito, and Urbosa of the Gerudo). Other characters, like Zelda and Young Impa, will also dive into battle in an attempt to change the tides of war, before its flames consume all of Hyrule.
As the story begins, ominous events start to unfold in Hyrule. Link, a young guard, is asked to protect Princess Zelda. Together, they travel to four different regions to recruit the mighty champions. Perhaps with their help, they can stop the hordes of monsters besieging Hyrule and restore order? Players will need to utilize crazy special abilities and powerful combos to dispatch their foes and advance their cause on the battlefield. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity adds unique new additions to the Musou genre. You can use Shiekah Runes, which differ from one character to the next. For Breath of the Wild veterans, these provide familiar abilities like Cryonis and Magnesis. There are also magic rods imbued with elemental powers like fire, ice, and lightning. They can interact with the environment, to add another layer of strategy and depth to the game. Furthermore, players can also unleash terror on their enemies by using the champions to take control of the Divine Beasts.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is available physically and digitally for $59.99. If you have save data on your Switch from Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then you’ll get the Training Sword as a bonus in this game. There is also a free demo for those who want to try the game out before they buy a copy. Save data from the demo will carry over to the full game as well.
