South Korean developer and publisher, Shiftrick, has announced that their 2D hybrid sandbox game, RE:OZMA, is now available in Steam Early Access. The game follows an alien who has only a soul left after a huge space explosion burned his body to ashes. It takes inspiration from such well-known games as Minecraft, Terraria, and Starbound. While RE:OZMA retains elements of these games, like building, crafting, and digging, it is fundamentally different.
Players will own a planet, create their own world, and along the way encounter a countless array of random stars. The game aims to pursue a more accessible sandbox with plenty of action according to its Steam page. There are many types of action, as the game blends in a number of genres, including platforming, space simulation, shooter, rogue-like, and battle royal. Here is the official trailer:
The Steam Early Access version will unveil a new character design or form, called “flame”. The player can also infinitely transform by digging up the graves of dead aliens. He can then merge the body parts he finds with his own soul. Upon collecting a whole set, he can transform into that alien and use a new skill. There are also runes that can strengthen the parts in the set. This version also adds 22 new skills fitting the updated action concept of the game. Five new boss monsters lay in wait, and there are over 200 objects which players can craft or obtain. Kelly Choi, CEO of Shiftrick, commented on the early access release:
“After the recent demo test, we have been trying new things through combining actions to lower barriers to entering the sandbox genre itself. We will ultimately seek to expand and converge various genres and develop RE:OZMA a better, fun game through communication with platers during early access.”
