Thunderful Publishing has partnered with Image & Form Games and Super Rare Games. This partnership will bring the physical release of Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech for the Nintendo Switch. Their new press release says pre-orders for the game will open on November 7th, exclusively on the Super Rare Games website. It will be priced at £29.99.
Players will manage a party of rising heroes in this roleplaying card videogame that mixes steampunk robots with traditional fantasy. You’ll find yourself in tense battles in the game’s hand-drawn world. There are over 100 unique punch-cards from which to build your deck. “What awaits you is a luscious treasure chest filled with gold, dragons, vivid worlds, magic, knights in shining armor as well as XP, turn-based battles and all that good RPG stuff!” The Super Rare edition of Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech will include a 20-page full color manual, three random trading cards from a randomly selected five-card set, and some interior artwork
This deal actually happened in an unusual manner. Over a game of chess, a meeting took place between CEO of Image & Form Games, Brjann Sigurgeirsson, and George Perkins of Super Rare Games. George commented on the situation:
“We had just released the Mutant Mudds Collection with Jools Watsham and we were on a call catching up. During the call I mentioned that I had been playing a lot of chess recently, to which Jools mentioned that Brjann was the man to beat. From there I added him as a friend on an online chess website and the rest is history.
I jokingly mentioned that if I beat him he would have to sign with us to release SteamWorld Quest physically! I got beat very, very badly but luckily we still managed to sign the deal. I hope we can bring the rest of the amazing SteamWorld series as a physical release in the near future.”
Brjann Sigurgeirsson also had some comments:
“Physical games are the bomb! It’s one of the reasons why I love (and remain undefeated at) chess. So naturally, I’m excited to work with Super Rare on SteamWorld Quest and beyond. SteamWorld fans have been asking us for months for a physical Quest release and finally, we can lift the veil off this amazing edition of our darling RPG. A ton of passion and creative work went into the game and the Super Rare box celebrates all of that with great ceremony. I hope everyone will enjoy what we’ve cooked up… Dinner is served!”
