This is the first Nintendo Download that feels like a proper October day. It’s cold outside, there’s a bit of wind and it’s starting to feel like Halloween. Sadly, there’s not many games here that reflect that seasonal change, but there is still a bunch of great stuff to check out. Several featured titles, the usual weekly sales and a whole pillow case full of digital goodies. Let’s start with a couple popular series making the Switch.
I personally could care less about The Witcher series, but I also haven’t played any of them. I know that it’s very popular, featuring hundreds of hours of exploration and battle. Well, if you do like the adventures of Geralt, then you might be hyped for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. This iteration doesn’t bring much of anything new to the game, other than making it portable on the Nintendo Switch. I care slightly more about this next game, just cause of the art style. Overwatch: Legendary Edition is coming to Switch soon, and brings the frenetic and colorful action to Nintendo’s console. Admittedly I don’t play many FPS style games, but on occasion I like the quirky stuff. So I might try Overwatch. Next up is the latest side project from Game Freak. Though they’re mostly known for the insanely popular Pokémon series, I find that the random stuff Game Freak cooks up on the side is usually fantastic. Their next side project is Little Town Hero, where you protect your small town from the sudden appearance of monsters. You do so with creative and on the fly strategies, and it all is wrapped up in a candy colored coating. Depending on how the combat actually works, Little Town Hero might be fantastic, though I’ll personally do more research before I get on board. Finally, if you enjoy crazy team based mayhem and insects, you should check out Killer Queen Black. Protect your hive as an insect warrior or powerful queen bee and work to destroy the opposing team. It’s simple in premise yet very complex in execution. I can say that since I actually demoed this one a while back. But that’s not all this Nintendo Download, let’s check out some sales next.
The first sale this week is a bit of a head scratcher, since it’s a game that I mentioned last week that seemingly has a new name this week. That game was Aldred – Knight of Honor, now just called Aldred Knight (Switch) for a mere $0.99. Can’t argue with that price, but I always get worried when a game changes its title unexpectedly. But let’s keep going. If you want some rhythm, check out Hexagroove: Tactical DJ (Switch) for $24.99; for some hacking, try Cyber Protocol (Switch) for $7.77; for old school SHMUP fun, try Pacific Wings (Switch) for $3.99; or to explore a post apocalyptic mutant paradise, try RAD (Switch) for $14.99; to try some cute platforming, check out Robbie Swifthand and the Orb of Mysteries (Switch) for $8.99; for rogue mayhem, there’s Super Mutant Alien Assault (Switch) for $4.99; or for a weird SHMUP, try Q-YO Blaster (Switch) for $4.99; to smash a wee robot, try Scrap (Switch) for $2.74; for some zombie hunting, relive the horror in Resident Evil (Switch) and Resident Evil 4 (Switch), for $19.99 each; for fun with a bird steed, try Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY! (Switch) for $27.99; for a fun but flawed Metroidvania, try Chasm (Switch) for $12.99; for something Halloweeny, try Little Nightmares: Complete Edition (Switch) for only $10.19; or for fun with friends, try Don’t Starve (Switch) for $7.99; for a steep discount, check out Aperion Cyberstorm (Switch) for $2.99; for more rogue fun, try Spelunker Party! (Switch) for $11.99; for a bunch of classics, try NAMCO MUSEUM (Switch) for $10.19; for an amazing discount, try Spheroids (Wii U) for only $0.99; and for something weird, try Ambition of the Slimes (3DS) for $3. The following digital offerings are officially out in next week’s Nintendo Download. I hope you like remakes and ports. First up, for Western RPG action, try Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions and Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Editions. If you like movie adaptations and want to take a chance, stay tuned for Zombieland: Double Tap – Road Trip. And lastly, for the return of some classic gaming, you’ll likely enjoy The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors.
And now the rest of these digital games are out this week of the Nintendo Download. In honor of Halloween, there’s 13 worth mentioning. Fans of puzzle games, rejoice with the following – Duped, Family Tree and Little Briar Rose. For a few different types of RPG, try DORAEMON STORY OF SEASONS, MISTOVER, Monochrome Order and A Knight’s Quest. Or if you want 3 for the price of 1, try Old School RPG Bundle. For a duo of platformers, try Mable and the Wood and Valfaris. If you love old school mayhem, check out River City Melee Mach!! Finally, for a couple very different adventure games, try The Bradwell Conspiracy and Spirit Hunter: NG.
Pretty good Nintendo Download, if I say so myself. Thanks for joining us here at oprainfall, and be sure to tune in next week! Hopefully by then we’ll start to get legitimately Halloweeny games…
