Taking inspiration from games like Breath of the Wild, Stardew Valley, Subnautica, Steamworld Dig, and Dark Souls, the developers at 10tons have announced a new title that aims to mix the best concepts of each. DYSMANTLE is described as “an open world action RPG where you ruin everything”. While it has only just been announced, the developers have provided a brief description to summarize the game’s events:
DYSMANTLE is set on an extraordinary dystopian island where time seems to have stopped somewhere between 70s and 90s after a grim calamity has taken place. The story starts as the protagonist ascends from his underground shelter and finds himself all alone and left behind on the island. He needs to unravel the mysteries and find the means to escape the wretched place.
According to the press release, 99% of all objects can be broken to harvest materials. The only items that can’t be broken are those which are essential to progress through the game. When you’re not destroying things, you’ll likely be fighting or running away from the violent creatures that roam the island. All struggles for survival aside, life on the island won’t be too bad. You’ll also have the option to build outposts, craft various items, farm exotic plants, solve puzzles, fish, and cook. DSYMANTLE was built using an improved iteration of the 3D engine used in 10tons’ last release, Tesla vs Lovecraft. It will feature a single, open world map and very few loading screens.
DYSMANTLE will see a release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It remains to be seen when the exact release dates will be, but an official Steam page does currently exist. Be sure to head there or the game’s official website for more information.
