Cardcaptor Sakura | Omnibus Book 1

The March issue of Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine is revealing that Cardcaptor Sakura will be receiving a new project. The project will be done to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the manga. Details on the project will be announced at a later date.

The issue also announced that NHK’s BS Premium will rebroadcast the Clow Cards arc of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime. The rebroadcast will begin on April 6.

Cardcaptor Sakura is written and illustrated by CLAMP. It was published by Kodansha in their Nakayoshi magazine from May 1996 to June 2000. The manga had a total of 12 volumes released. The manga is licensed for release in North America by Dark Horse Comics. Dark Horse Comics released the series in 4 omnibus books, each book collecting 3 volumes of the original manga.

An anime adaptation for the manga was produced by Madhouse and aired from April 7, 1998 to March 21, 2000. The anime ran for 70 episodes. Two anime films were also produced by Madhouse. The first film premiered in Japan in 1999 and the second film premiered in 2000.

The Cardcaptor Sakura anime is licensed for release in North America by NIS America. The anime was released in North America in both a Blu-ray Premium Edition and a Standard Edition DVD set.

A synopsis for the anime is provided by NIS America:

Ten-year-old Sakura lives a pretty normal life with her older brother, Toya, and widowed father, Fujitaka. At least she did, until the day she returned home from school to discover a glowing book in her father’s study. After opening the book and releasing the cards within, Sakura is tasked with collecting each of these magical cards, while trying to live the life of a normal fourth grader. In the monumental task of collecting all the cards, Sakura must rely on her friends and family, and decide what she finds most important in life.

Are you excited for this new project? What do you think the new project will involve? I for one am happy we’re getting something new for Cardcaptor Sakura.
