With the 2015 Pokémon World Championship going on in Boston, most invitees and attendees would of never guessed that anyone would want this to be the scene for a massacre. According to Boston’s Fox News, police were alerted when two males, 18-year-old Kevin Norton and 27-year-old James Stumbo, began posting pictures of two fire arms, a shotgun and a AR-15, with the words “Kevin Norton and I are ready for worlds Boston here we come!!!”
The two suspects are listed on the official Pokémon site as invitees in the “master division” the the trading card portion of the event. When found they arrived at the Hynes Convention Center on Thursday, they were met by private security and not allowed inside of the event. Boston police detectives obtained a search warrant for their car on Friday and found the weapons along with a large amount of ammo.
Now, these two individuals are said to have been gun enthusiasts, so them having these fire arms with proper paper work is not illegal. It is also unclear what they meant by the threats and if any others exist they may have been deleted.
The Pokémon Company International has posted the following statement:
Prior to the event this weekend, our community of players made us aware of a security issue. We gathered information and gave it as soon as possible to the authorities at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center who acted swiftly and spearheaded communication with the Boston Police Department. Due to quick action, the potential threat was resolved. The Pokémon Company International takes the safety of our fans seriously and will continue to ensure proper security measures are a priority.
