The first chapter of the new King’s Quest reboot released today. Titled A Knight to Remember, it is the first of five chapters in a episodic remake of the classic Sierra adventure game series.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Creative Director Matt Korba explains how this reimagining of the series ties together with the original games released in the ’80s and ’90s.
In our new game, the story revolves around a very old King named Graham and the adventures he shares with his curious granddaughter, Gwendolyn. Just as Graham hands down his stories, we set out to create a family friendly game that could be shared between new players and long-time King’s Quest fans. Our goal was to create an experience that blends art, gameplay, and storytelling in a modern adventure game that respects where Sierra came from, and where Sierra is going. We packed in as many puzzles, jokes, nods, and secrets as we could, and we can’t wait to find out if you’ll find them all.
This project had the full support of Sierra Games’ Roberta and Ken Williams, who introduced the project after accepting the Industry Icon award at The Video Game Awards back in December.
King’s Quest Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember is out now for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC via Steam. It will be released on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 on July 29. You can buy either the individual chapter, or a complete collection, which will get you a bonus playable epilogue. More chapters are coming later this year.
