DeNA Games

Though specific news about the new Nintendo and DeNA partnership is still scarce, beyond the rumor that we might see something as soon as 2016, some concrete details emerged today. In an interview with DeNA West CEO Shintaro Asako, the following was announced –

“I understand some people like RPGs, casual games. That’s why we decided to work together to create five games, hitting on different genre-utilizing IPs. We want to make sure out of those five IP that we can end up attracting hundreds of millions of people,”

While five games doesn’t sound like much, a lot depends on the scope of the games. If we get, for example, a platformer with Mario, an Adventure game with Link, a RPG with Fire Emblem characters etc, these 5 games would be much more exciting. That is, assuming the standard Nintendo pedigree for quality games translates to anything on a the new NX console. It was also announced that the first of these 5 is slated to hit at the end of 2015, and 4 more at the end of March 2017. I personally hope that Nintendo’s partnership with DeNA, most especially the shadowy NX, prove to be worth the wait. Chime in below if you have any thoughts about the fate of this partnership.
