Smashing Saturdays

The end is near, my friends. Next week marks the end of the Smashing Saturdays segment on oprainfall; not because there won’t be more Smash related news to talk about, but because after next week Sakurai-san will cease his daily pics. So, with that in mind, the daily pics are all double trouble this week. Lots of interesting tidbits plus a whole new level reveal! Get excited, cause there’s lots to cover. Let’s get Smashing!

Smashing Saturdays | Co op Battle

This critter should be familiar to most of you, regardless of whether or not you have Smash Bros. yet. It was covered in the Smash Bros. 50 Things segment, and is known as Master Beast. What is more interesting is the number of heroes challenging the obsidian terror. Co-op Classic Mode is officially a thing. To keep things fair, the enemies you face are more powered up as a result. Speaking of powered up…

Smashing Saturdays | Master Fortress
Back-slash it good, Shulk!

Also on display Monday was this hideous close up of Master Fortress. Only by destroying its heart-like cores can you win the day against this gargantuan creature. Sounds awesome, if a bit intimidating. Moving on to Tuesday.

Smashing Saturdays | HD Glory

Though this stage is not new, the HD facelift surely is, as is the fact that now up to 8 players can Smash there! Which in retrospect makes a lot of sense, since matches on this stage always took forever and ended up in an extended game of Hide-and-Seek.

Smashing Saturdays | Hylian Text

One new thing about the Temple? The lovely Hylian text on it. Wonder what it says? Anybody got a Hylian to English translator handy?

Smashing Saturdays | Mario Kart Circuit

It was fitting that a day before the Mario Kart 8 DLC hit, Sakurai revealed this new stage – Mario Circuit! And since it’s based off Mario Kart 8, the course you travel upon flips upside down, even though the brawlers are kept right-side up relative to the platform you brawl on.

Smashing Saturdays | Zero G Guys

Of course, just because you’re right-side up doesn’t mean you’re out of harm’s way. Zero G Shy Guys can and will cause havoc. Though I’m not a huge fan of the new Rainbow Road stage, I do love the look of Mario Circuit.

Smashing Saturdays | Videos
Glorious HD movies are finally at your fingertips!

Thursday delved more into the HD movies available in the Wii U version. “Long before the game release, we revealed new fighters with videos. The video quality of online streams is not always the best, though. Luckily, you can watch them as they were meant to be in Movies mode on the Wii U version.

Smashing Saturdays | Video List

You can even re-watch videos that play after you clear Classic mode and Allstar mode. This is a list of videos which are unlocked when you clear certain things. They tend to be short, but you’ll get a lot of information if you play them all in one sitting.” I’m sure that I am far from the only one who adored the reveal videos, and look forward highly to the prospect of watching them again and again.

Smashing Saturdays | Classic Options

Friday had more info on the cool Wii U exclusive, Smash Tour. “Smash Tour is really hard to explain in words–it’s tough to give out guidance tips with such limited space to type!! So I’ll stop myself from saying too much–just try playing this mode three times with your friends. Smash Bros. will definitely feel even more like a party if you try this out.

Smashing Saturdays | 3 Modes

There are three types of game boards. If you turn on the Custom Fighters option, the fighters will be preset with custom special moves. The number on a fighter’s portrait on the game board indicates which custom move set that fighter is using–this also adds to the randomness of this mode.” Though I’m not a giant Mario Party fan, this mixture of it and Smash Bros. has me utterly intrigued. I hope it’s half as fun to play as it looks!

And that’s it for this week! Check back next week for our final installment, with a great special feature to wrap up the series!
