Because we can never get enough Legend of Zelda stuff, the makers of Monopoly are making a special Legend of Zelda set. It features a completely redone board, pieces, and cards. There are a bunch of name changes for this as well; houses are renamed ‘Deku Sprouts,’ hotels are now ‘Deku Trees,’ and the chance and community chest cards are now named ‘Empty Bottle’ and ‘Treasure Chest.’
And of course, GameStop is offering exclusive content for it. Yes, that’s right, exclusive content for a board game. Though, to be fair, it is some cool stuff. This includes an Ocarina of Time player piece, six “Item Power Cards,” and a Hyrule Map Lithograph. The GameStop Exclusive Edition box is very reminiscent of the Hyrule Historia book. Which might be cool if, unlike me, you can think about the book without going into a nerdrage over that terrible timeline.
The only real complaint that I could have about this would be that the large board image is a rather boring stock image of Link that we’ve seen for years. Personally, that poster map of Hyrule that they include would have been a much nicer touch.
From GameStop:
The Legend of Zelda MONOPOLY takes players on a trip through time as they travel through the land of Hyrule and beyond. Memorable locations include Link’s House, Temple of Time and the Lon Lon Ranch and are all up for grabs in this special collector’s edition of one of the most revered video games of all time. In addition to collectible tokens, custom designed game board, Zelda themed money and custom Chance, Community Chest and deed cards, the Game Stop Exclusive edition includes the Ocarina of Time token, Hyrule Map Lithograph and 6 Item Cards for added game play.
MONOPOLY: The Legend of Zelda GameStop Exclusive Edition will be available for $39.99 USD from GameStop on September 15th, 2014.
