Sony kicked off their E3 2014 conference with a darkened room, a visor-shaped monitor and a deep voice narrating the expansion and downfall of humanity across the stars. This was the way Destiny was introduced to the press, both at the Sony conference and to the viewers at home. Along with this, a cinematic trailer showed off the game’s story, villains, enemy types and what seemed to be playable classes and their varying abilities. After the smoke had cleared and the lights had returned, who else but Sony president and group CEO Andrew House to enter the house? He announced what would make Destiny, in his own words, “better” on the PS4.
First, he revealed that gamers will be able to play Destiny on the PS4 before any other system, with the beta coming July 17th and the alpha coming this Thursday, June 12th. This means PS4 players will have exclusive access to the game months before Windows and Xbox One players. Yet, the second announcement was even more stunning. On September 9th, the game will be released in a bundle with a glacier-white PS4, a white DualShock 4, a copy of the game, and a 30-day subscription to PlayStation Plus.
This was an exciting way to kick off the Sony conference and made me personally wonder if I should hold off on acquiring a PS4 until September to get a white one.
Later on in the conference, Sony dropped another bombshell: the PS4 version of Destiny will come with exclusive content, ships, weapons, and an exclusive multiplayer map. It certainly looks like the destiny of Destiny on the PS4 is a good one.
