Well, what do you know? According to the Media Create charts, a Western game can sell pretty well in Japan. Grand Theft Auto V launches in the region with 360,115 units sold on the PS3 and even makes the Xbox 360 relevant for a week. Well, it just goes to show that…
Yeah, this is really going nowhere. I just wanted to avoid talking about Pokémon for as long as I could.
So, yeah, Pokémon X and Y have combined for nearly 2,000,000 units sold IN TWO DAYS! Well, if you go by the list Famitsu does, it has already eclipsed the mark, so it all depends on which list you follow. Also something of note—the game helped raise sales of the 3DS by nearly 90,000.
Over on the Vita side of things, the handheld jumps to over 60,000 units sold. There are a few reasons for this—one, the release of Danganronpa 1 & 2 Reload, the Vita remake of the first two Danganronpa games; and two, the release of the PCH-2000, the Vita’s smaller and cheaper LCD model. While I doubt either one will have the legs to hold the Vita up, it’s nice to see the console have some success. Also of note for the Vita—the handheld is less than 100,000 units away from selling 2,000,000 units lifetime in Japan.
Over on the software side of things, Monster Hunter 4 continues to sell, selling another 100,000 units. It should reach the 3,000,000 mark within the next few weeks—or, at the very least, before the year ends. Also coming soon is a blue Monster Hunter 4-themed 3DS, so that should raise some numbers in the region.
Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, the PS3 remake of the original Tales of Symphonia and its sequel Dawn of the New World, was released with sales of 77,228 units. The game has already been announced for localization and will be coming to Western regions next year.
Also releasing this week is Fairy Fencer F, which saw a collaboration with artist Yoshitaka Amano (whose design works include Final Fantasy and Vampire Hunter D), composer Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy, many other games), designer Tsunako (Hyperdimension Neptunia series), and screenwriter Tokishi Inoue (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Death Note). The game opened at 7th with 40,666 units sold. No localization has been announced for this game.
Finally, I’d like to make a special mention of Youkai Watch. The latest Level-5 RPG has reached 200,000 units sold in Japan. Hopefully, along with a couple of other games from the company, we can see this game reach the West.
