The following is the opinion of the author and does not reflect the views of oprainfall as a whole:
I am baffled by the way this whole upgrade business is being handled. First, having this upgrade pack only be available for a limited time is absurd. This should be available permanently. Owners of the original game are being forced to purchase the game within this limited timespan, and that doesn’t sit right with me. Second, the upgrade pack should also be available on GOG and Epic Games Store, not just Steam. This is a given, not everyone purchases their games on Steam. Since Ys X: Proud Nordics and the original Ys X: Nordics are available on those three PC storefronts, all three should get the same upgrade benefit, not just Steam. The way it’s setup now, it shows favoritism to one storefront, and again, that just isn’t right. Last, owners of the original game on consoles deserve an upgrade discount just as much as PC players. If you owned the original game on Nintendo Switch, you should be able to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Proud Nordics at a discounted rate. If you owned the original game on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, you should be able to purchase the PlayStation 5 version of Proud Nordics at a discounted rate. To me, that’s just the fair way to things.
I still think Ys X: Proud Nordics is a great game and the changes do make it better. If you’ve never played or purchased the original before, then this upgrade business doesn’t affect you. You really can’t go wrong buying this game, I do recommend it. But for those who purchased the original game, especially at full price, I’d be more on the fence buying it right now. I’d just wait for a deeper discount in the future. I just hope this upgrade business is rectified and something is done to make it more enticing for owners of the original game to purchase Proud Nordics.
