“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
A small spoiler for this week: I invested in the turnip market again for the second time this year, and I have yet to find time to actually visit Nook’s Cranny to sell them when they are still open.
Between wrapping up my GDC 2025 coverage for publication, helping to coordinate Nintendo Switch 2 news coverage, and getting another installment of my cooking column ready to be published on Friday, life has moved pretty fast for me this week.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons forces me to stop and look around every day at what is happening, even when it doesn’t seem opportune for me to do so. And so far – yes, it is quixotic for me to buy a bunch of turnips, which have to be sold by Saturday and I can only find out the price offered during store hours, but yet not find the time to actually check said pricing to make the sale before said date. But I am determined to try to not miss as much as possible. Who knew how right Ferris could be?

Cherry-blossom petals are in the air, and I have no idea what to do with the ones I catch!
Also, it’s…Prom season? I stopped by Nook’s Shopping machine and saw that I can buy all sorts of Prom Sashes, Prom Wall, and Prom Flooring items. I’m a bit confused, since I haven’t thought about prom since high school. I am going to buy a few and see if I can get my fellow islanders to wear them. I have no idea if that will happen or not, honestly!
Aside from that, I drank a room temperature cup of coffee at Brewster’s Cafe. He did not seem happy that I was doing that.

I guess as a ‘thank you’ for showing up to Cephalobot’s birthday a couple days ago, he taught me the Resignation Reaction! I feel like that sometimes with life, and it is nice to see it in game, too.
Redd was also in town! His boat had pulled up at the small northern beach, and he had a lot for sale. I ended up buying The Sower by Jean-François Millet. It is a gorgeous painting, and it looks like the real one…Though admittedly, I am only truly familiar with Van Gogh’s take on The Sower.
I ordered another Prom Sash, and that was pretty much it!
April 4

Today, unfortunately, I did not have a lot of time to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
I stopped by Brewster’s Cafe, and he gave me the recipe for Roost sablé cookies. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to cook them since I don’t actually have a way to cook anything yet in the game. I tried to use the DIY item, and it said that I needed a new app in my Nookphone in order to use it…
I might have to spend more Nook Points tomorrow.

Goose and I hung out with K.K. Slider tonight and listened to K.K. Samba – which was surprisingly upbeat. I am really wondering if Goose is also a K.K Slider megafan, since he is around so often when Saturday night rolls around. I also ran into Camofrog and he was wearing an MVP shirt, which made me wish I had my own MVP shirt to wear this week!
Other than that, Blathers was kind enough to assess a Diplo torso for me (which the museum already had), and I stopped by Brewster’s for a late-night cup of coffee. He asked me if I wanted pigeon milk in it, so OF COURSE I had to say yes. I waited to drink it until Brewster started to give me the side-eye. At that point, the coffee had cooled down a little bit and it was nice and mellow.
Finally, I stopped by the terminal and bought the “Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+” kit from Nook Shopping. My phone upgraded and I immediately learned the recipe for Roost sablé cookies. I was then told that I needed a kitchen to cook in. What?!
Guess I know what I’m doing next…finding a kitchen.
April 6

Today, I decided to invest once again into the Stalk Market.
I dumped over 30,000-something Bells into turnips at 97 Bells apiece, and I am hoping that I don’t get burned on the deal by the end of the week.
I also visited Brewster again! I let the coffee cool down as much as possible, and I could feel him just absolutely JUDGING me for not drinking the coffee when it was at its hottest. While I was there, Isabelle came in! She said Tom Nook gave her a coffee break since things were slow, and so she ordered a takeway coffee. I didn’t know Isabelle drinks coffee, but I guess that explains how she can stay awake at all hours of the day to help us islanders out.

I found Gayle on the beach this morning, and she told me a mildly scary story about how “dread squeezed” her heart after she “heard this weird flapping sound” on a “cold, foggy evening” before something damp licked the back of her neck!
It turned out to be her hanging, half-dried laundry, and she taught me the Fearful Reaction as a result!
I returned to the Nook Machine inside the Town Hall, and I bought the Hip Reaction Collection, a customizable phone case kit, and Top 8 Cool Hairstyles from it. I decided it was time to start experimenting more with what Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to offer me with my own personal self, and not just how I influence the wider world around me.
Finally, I also started up another Red Zen Bridge on the western side of my island, so I can try to open up that side more without having to use a pole to get there.
(And no, I did not manage to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons while Nook’s Cranny was open…so I have no idea what my turnips would sell for. Tomorrow, right?)
April 8

I missed visiting Tom Nook’s Cranny for the second day in a row to try to unload my turnips. I am telling myself that I still have time, I have four more days to sell them…but it is extremely stressful. I don’t want to be burned by a bunch of turnips! Saharah was in town today, but I ended up not buying anything from her. I just didn’t feel flush with enough cash to do so because of that.
What was a really cool moment, and one that really shows me why I need to keep building up the outside world on my island is when I encountered her chilling in a chair I set up by the Town Hall, looking at the telescope at night. It felt like she was really stargazing at the heavens above us both! While there weren’t any shooting stars to see unfortunately, things like this really help to bring Renassia to life.
I’m telling myself that tomorrow, I will play when Nook’s Cranny is open, and I will try to sell my turnips then. Really, this time.
Maybe.
