NIS America has announced two demos coming for The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II. These demos are exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and will release on January 24. Players can choose from a Story Demo or a Gameplay Demo.
The Story Demo lets players experience the game up to the beginning of Chapter 1. Save data from this demo will carry over to the full game once it releases in February.
The Gameplay Demo allows players to experience a new feature coming to Trails through Daybreak II, the Märchen Garten. Players will be able to go through two floors of the Garten with two different preset parties. Since this demo is mainly to try out the game’s combat and the different characters featured in the game, save data from this demo will not carry over to the full game.
The Märchen Garten is a new optional area that can be accessed in the game’s world. Players can choose from over 15 different characters and create any team they desire to tackle the randomized floors in this virtual space. More floors will open up as you progress the main story. You can level up your characters, obtain new equipment and outfits, strengthen characters’ Crafts, and play minigames. Any level ups and equipment (including outfits) acquired in the Garten can be brought back and utilized in the main story. More floors will also open up in the post-game for players to tackle.
Making a return to the series in this entry are minigames. These were not a feature in the first Daybreak game, so this is a welcome return. There are four minigames to choose from: Fishing, Hacking, Seven Hearts, and Basketball. Once you unlock the minigame by playing through the main story, these can be played in the Märchen Garten too.
Fishing is a classic minigame featured in most games in the Trails series. Players can catch multiple types of fish, and every character can be used in the fishing minigame, so everyone can be a master angler.
In the Hacking minigame, players will guide an avatar through a labyrinth while avoiding different obstacles and security.
Seven Hearts is a new card game where the player will take on three other characters in a free for all. The game ends when someone’s life hits zero. The cards in the game represent the seven elements found in the game’s world: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Space, Time, and Mirage. Players may find similarities to another card game found in real life.
Basketball is a minigame where players go 1-on-1 against another character. It’s a pretty simple minigame where you take turns shooting and defending.
