5. Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online
Starting the midway point of this list is Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online. I love games done in that offline MMO style and this one certainly fit that bill. I loved the combat here, and the story was a lot of fun as well. They basically brought in a genderbent Kirito character and threw in some yuri, so that is a win! There were plenty of different quests you can take the girls on and lots of cool outfits and accessories to unlock as well. There is a very nice photo mode players can use to get the perfect angle of their waifu of choice as well. If you haven’t played this one, I have no issues recommending it to fans.
4. Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters
Starting the upper tier of my list is Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters. I went into this one expecting something very dark and depressing, but that’s not what I got at all. I got a game full of hope and some great humor as well. Spending time with my favorite sisters once more was great, and I loved the new combat system once I got used to it. Having guest characters based off the Higurashi and Touhou franchises was great as well. I thought the story here was very fitting for the current day industry, and commentary presented here could only be done by a game in this franchise. The lack of costumes sucked, but there were some neat accessories and a fantastic photo mode.
3. Hyperdimension Neptunia Producing Perfection
Putting this game so high on this list will likely be controversial to a lot of folks, but hear me out. I know the gameplay of this one is basically a broken mess of cheering the girls on as they perform in their quest to become idols. There were some amazing tunes sung by the voice actors of our favorite characters here, but I’ve always seen this game as more of a Visual Novel in which you can date the Goddesses. I loved spending time with all four of the girls – Nep was my favorite of course – but I was amazed at how well each of them were written here. We may never get a dating sim with our favorite waifus, but this one is close enough and I loved it for it.
2. Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart
Not only is this a great strategy title from Sting, but the writing and story here are just amazing. Noire’s Generals being based off different game franchises is amazing. There is a ton of great CG work in this game, with some of the best ecchi the franchise has to offer. Since you play the game as Noire’s secretary, you get closer to her as the game progresses and seeing more of her adorable tsundere nature is always a big win. If you haven’t played this amazing spin-off you should do so ASAP. You’ll be glad you did!
And my No.1 Neptunia spin-off title is….
Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed
Since I love the gameplay of Senran Kagura it’s no wonder Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed is my favorite spin-off in the franchise. I love the Hack n Slash gameplay, and the amazing storytelling in this one. From Uni wondering if Noire is dying because she wasn’t being a bitch, to Famitsu having her journalist integrity questioned, this is the peak of Neptunia spoofing the industry we all know and love. This game is fully dubbed in English and that cast did an amazing job bringing all the girls we know and love to life in this one. I cannot play this game without laughing and smiling at its antics, and that is what gaming is supposed be.
