A while back I reviewed Neptunia X SENRAN KAGURA: Ninja Wars on the PlayStation 4. In my previous review, I stated the game was a lot of fun with a story fitting of both series, and it featured a great combat system. The game has now been ported to the Nintendo Switch, so I decided to take a look and see how well it performed. Since this review mostly going to focus on the performance of the Switch port, you may want to check out the PlayStation 4 version review if you want a more detailed look at the gameplay mechanics. At any rate, let’s dig into this!
Here is a bit about the story before we dig into the technical part of this. This story takes place in the world of Gamninjustri. The allied nations of Heartland are locked in a ninja war with the great nation of Marveland. Though they fight constantly, the girls have a mostly friendly rivalry. They will soon have to put aside their differences and join forces to face a threat greater than either has ever known. The Steeme Legion with their leader, Yoh Gamer, has invaded Gamninjustri. They conquered all of the smaller schools with ease and have now declared a “Super NINJA War” to see which school is the strongest of all time!
I have to say, I enjoyed the story just as much as I did the first time around. It’s always fun seeing Neptune and the others engage in their very entertaining banter. Throwing the Senran Kagura girls into the mix added a new layer to this already wonderful chemistry. New characters add a lot of fun to the mix as well, Vert even found herself a new little sister! The most important thing to remember is that Blanc has lots of boing boing, they are just in stealth mode all the time!
Graphically, Neptunia X SENRAN KAGURA: Ninja Wars still looks really good on the Nintendo Switch. You may notice a few of the environmental textures and character model details have been lowered a bit, but this is barely noticeable. I’m not sure what the actual framerate is here, but it is very solid. I never noticed any major dips in performance, docked or in handheld mode. The only real drawback to this version of the game is the load times. They aren’t crazy long, but they are noticeably longer than in the PlayStation 4 version. That being said, this is a really solid port and I think most folks would be happy with how it performs.
This is a very solid port of Neptunia X SENRAN KAGURA: Ninja Wars for the Nintendo Switch. The game looks great and runs at a steady frame rate. This version of the game also includes all of the DLC costumes from the previous release and two new difficulty modes. Easy mode will let you handle all of the game’s combat without breaking a sweat so you can enjoy the story. The new harder difficulty mode will crush your soul as you use everything you can to achieve victory. It takes around 12 hours to complete this one and I feel it is well worth the discounted launch price of $39.99. If you don’t own this on PlayStation 4 or just want a version of the game to play on the go, you should probably snag this up. It’s one of the best quality Switch ports I’ve seen.
