If there was one thing I wasn’t expecting before today’s Nintendo Download, it was the surprise announcement of a brand spanking new Paper Mario game. Paper Mario: The Origami King is the first entry for the Switch, and it looks to bring the creativity and hilarity along with unique new turn based combat. But I’m not here to talk about just Mario, I’m here to cover the Nintendo Download! There’s some other cool surprises today, including a crowdfunded port of a cult classic title, vocaloids, sales and digital goodies. Let’s start with a diverse group of featured titles.
Superpowered heroes, mechanical monsters, adventurers and a diva walk into a bar… Yes it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that’s the lineup for today’s featured titles. First up, we have a surprising port – The Wonderful 101: Remastered. I really wanted to like the original game, but found the controls too cumbersome to handle. Funny enough, the developer agreed in a recent interview with Nintendo Force. They said that they weren’t the ones that wanted such complex Wii U controls. All I really know about Remastered is that it is supposed to have more intuitive controls, so I’m ready for it. Next up is a game I tackled on a whim last year at E3, and which I didn’t think would come to Switch. Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus brings tactical mayhem to Switch. It’s dark, menacing and creepy, and it’s also pretty fun. Next up, if you like defense and rogue with a pug thrown in, you might enjoy Dungeon of the Endless. Last but not least, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix brings musical fun to Nintendo’s latest console. It features over 100 songs to enjoy as well. Next up, let’s cover a new mobile update.
Gather Your Dream Team of Racing Machines – A new update for the Mario Kart Tour game* drifts onto smartphone devices, bringing with it Team Races and Room Codes for multiplayer matches. In Team Races, up to four separate teams of two racers each can compete for the highest score in a blistering race for racetrack dominance. Join up with pals nearby, or friends and other racers online, and fling those Red Shells with abandon to take out your competitors! The newly added Room Code feature makes multiplayer more flexible for fun with friends and family too. Create your own custom room and share the code for a match with up to eight players comprised of your hand-selected Mario Kart Tour companions. Players can access these newly added features by downloading the latest update for Mario Kart Tour via the App Store or Google Play.
I hope you came ready for sales, cause today’s Nintendo Download is jam packed. Before we move to the Game Guide, there’s two publisher sales worth checking out.
