I joined oprainfall much further into the life of the website, it’s been about three years now. I believe I signed up back in April 2017, or it might’ve been late March. Originally I signed on to do retro reviews. I saw oprainfall advertising their need for help on Twitter. They sounded relatively nice and welcoming and thus, I joined up, having never written for a collective website of people before. I had written game reviews before, but they were pretty poor. I can also guarantee you that hardly anyone read my amateur reviews back then.
So ultimately, I never actually ended up doing the retro reviews I signed up for. I wasn’t motivated at the time to play through old faves and write about them. What I did end up doing, was get into writing opinion articles. I’m extremely far from the best writer out there. Yet I have no problems rambling my thoughts about the stuff I care about. I was given a warm and welcoming place to do that here at oprainfall. I can write something as cheesy as my top fave spooky Pokémon for Halloween, or I can put out something as serious as my disdain for censorship. Eventually I did start writing game reviews, and sure, for more serious articles there are much more strict rules when our review editor gets his hands on those ramblings of mine. But no one here ever wanted to take away my voice or make me say anything I wouldn’t say. I’m free to say what I believe, no matter how ridiculous or idiotic and I can write about almost anything I want to. If a game I’d like to cover has already been reviewed recently, then I’m even free to spout my adoration in an opinion piece instead.
I don’t know how long I’ll be here at oprainfall or how long our site can go for, but I’m glad it’s been around for these eight years. I’m fortunate to have actually started using my Twitter account and found one of their tweets looking for help. As of today, I don’t regret signing on whatsoever. Personally, I still see myself as an amateur writer. Nevertheless, I have improved somewhat over these three years of working with other people, specifically the ones who get stuck editing my articles. I love being here writing about what I enjoy, as well as chatting with everyone on the side about other things; gaming or otherwise. Everything I’ve discussed above is why oprainfall means a lot to me and I hope our site keeps going for at least another eight years. We’re small, but it’s a fantastic little gaming community to be a part of.
