There’s no better time to be a gamer than during a pandemic, am I right? Nothing distracts quite like a good video game, which makes this Nintendo Download extra special. We have a good mix of fluffy and terrifying, with a handful of featured titles, sales and a bucket load of new digital games to enjoy. Let’s start with a game that has already been blowing up Twitter with tweets the last couple of weeks.

Nintendo Download | Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I admit, I’m not a big fan of casual or sim games, but even I can see some appeal in Animal Crossing. And I’m not just saying that cause I have grown to love Isabelle in Smash. There’s something to be said about gameplay that could potentially last forever, with lots of social interaction and crafting. The fact that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow 4 people locally or 8 online to play together at a time is just icing on the tropical cake. But that’s not all this week. The tremendously insane sequel to Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, is officially free from Apple Arcade! I’ve been hyped for this one for a while, so I’m happy that I’m tasked with reviewing both Gungeon games on the oprainfall site. There’s also a mix between block breaking and SHMUP with Sky Racket. Though it came out a while ago on Steam, I’m much more invested in playing it on my Switch. Lastly, Nintendo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of DOOM by bringing DOOM 64 to Nintendo Switch. Cause apparently nothing goes better with Animal Crossing than a little DOOM. Just goes to show, opposites do attract. Now let’s continue this Nintendo Download with some juicy sales.

Nintendo Download | DOOM 64

First things first. There’s a couple of additional franchise sales worth checking out. First up is the folks at Square Enix. Until the end of the month, they have a bunch of games on sale. While I won’t mention all of them, here are some highlights – Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!, Collection of Mana, FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY IX, I am Setsuna, SaGa: SCARLET GRACE AMBITIONS and STAR OCEAN First Departure R. To see the other Square Enix Sales, you can click here.

Next up, there’s a special franchise sale from the fine folks at WayForward! This 30th Anniversary Sale offers 30% off a bunch of great titles, including the following – Mighty Switch Force! Collection, The Mummy Demastered, River City Girls, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and two editions of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Not as many games as Square, but some really high quality ones.

Fans of horror and puzzles might like Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition. If you wanna hack and slash, try Diabolic. Or to be pesky, there’s Bug Academy. Rhythm fans should enjoy Rhythm of the Gods. Or if you prefer action platformers, there’s Thunder Paw. And finally, if you enjoy card mechanics with a taste of rogue, look forward to Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition.

Nintendo Download | Sky Racket

Last of all, here are some digital goodies for this Nintendo Download. Retro fans might enjoy Arcade Archives FORMATION Z. Puzzle enthusiasts can check out Factotum 90 and the Indie Puzzle Bundle Vol 1. For gun blasting mayhem, try Dezatopia and Red Death. To get a bit of story with your gaming, try SeaBed and The Secret Order: Shadow Breach. And lastly, to support an indie developer, check out Ittle Dew 2+.

All in all, a pretty great Nintendo Download. Hope everyone is staying calm and staying safe right now. Thanks for staying tuned to oprainfall, and be sure to check in next week for more wonderful distractions from Nintendo.
