There’s no better time to be a gamer than during a pandemic, am I right? Nothing distracts quite like a good video game, which makes this Nintendo Download extra special. We have a good mix of fluffy and terrifying, with a handful of featured titles, sales and a bucket load of new digital games to enjoy. Let’s start with a game that has already been blowing up Twitter with tweets the last couple of weeks.
I admit, I’m not a big fan of casual or sim games, but even I can see some appeal in Animal Crossing. And I’m not just saying that cause I have grown to love Isabelle in Smash. There’s something to be said about gameplay that could potentially last forever, with lots of social interaction and crafting. The fact that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow 4 people locally or 8 online to play together at a time is just icing on the tropical cake. But that’s not all this week. The tremendously insane sequel to Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, is officially free from Apple Arcade! I’ve been hyped for this one for a while, so I’m happy that I’m tasked with reviewing both Gungeon games on the oprainfall site. There’s also a mix between block breaking and SHMUP with Sky Racket. Though it came out a while ago on Steam, I’m much more invested in playing it on my Switch. Lastly, Nintendo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of DOOM by bringing DOOM 64 to Nintendo Switch. Cause apparently nothing goes better with Animal Crossing than a little DOOM. Just goes to show, opposites do attract. Now let’s continue this Nintendo Download with some juicy sales.
First things first. There’s a couple of additional franchise sales worth checking out. First up is the folks at Square Enix. Until the end of the month, they have a bunch of games on sale. While I won’t mention all of them, here are some highlights – Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!, Collection of Mana, FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY IX, I am Setsuna, SaGa: SCARLET GRACE AMBITIONS and STAR OCEAN First Departure R. Next up, there’s a special franchise sale from the fine folks at WayForward! This 30th Anniversary Sale offers 30% off a bunch of great titles, including the following – Mighty Switch Force! Collection, The Mummy Demastered, River City Girls, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and two editions of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Not as many games as Square, but some really high quality ones.
