Cris Tales

Developers Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK revealed new details on their upcoming RPG Cris Tales, including combat and unveiling the gorgeous city of Saint Clarity.

In a blog post unveiling a region of the vibrant world of Crystallis, new screenshots share a first look at Saint Clarity, a coastal town where less fortunate citizens are barred from enjoying the downtown area’s grandiose amenities. Saint Clarity is just one of the striking cities players will discover in Crystallis, a vast land encompassing wildly varied landscapes and architecture inspired by the real-world wonders of Colombia.

“Saint Clarity is a coastal town where you’ll continue your journey and experience a beautiful new area of Cris Tales,” writes Jordan Vincent. “The people of Saint Clarity live in two distinct districts – the lower slums where the workers and common people live out their days doing back-breaking labor, and the inner city where nobles and the elite experience a completely different version of life behind their high wall.”

Main character Crisbell and her friends will comment on features of the city, including the inequality suffered by its citizens, as well as its reliance on tourism. “Some of this will be part of the quests and knowledge you’ll obtain in the town,” Vincent writes.

Saint Clarity also hosts several “memorable characters,” including the ruthless mayor Enzo, and roboticist Adri, “who dreams of a future that will bring prosperity to her fellow neighbors.”

The blog post also details the abilities of young mage Wilhelm, whose new Yukadragoras will inflict status effects like poison or lasting boosts instead of dishing direct, straightforward damage. “The possibility of mixing abilities with the different characters and how they interact with each other is at the heart of Cris Tales‘ combat system,” Vincent writes.

Cris Tales is a tribute to classic RPGs where past, present and future collide on the same screen, allowing players to simultaneously battle across eras and witness the influence of their actions and the fate of their surroundings. Lush, hand-drawn imagery brings Cris Tales’ world and inhabitants to life, making for a breathtaking, open-ended adventure through time to stop a mysterious Empress’ ceaseless appetite for destruction.

Cris Tales will release on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC in 2020. It will also launch simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass.
