If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know we’re big fans of Inti Creates here. That goes double for their recent creation, Azure Striker Gunvolt. Though it served initially as a spiritual successor to Mega Man, it quickly carved out its own niche with fans. One of my favorite things they introduced was the rival character of Copen, an unyielding, dogmatic warrior out to fulfill his own destiny. Well, the good news is, now Copen is getting his own standalone game in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX.

Unlike Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, which split the game between playable Gunvolt and Copen, this one is all about the white haired man of action. Previously, Copen was seen hunting the supernaturally powerful Adepts, who in turn could wield incredible forces called Septimas. Now, Adepts are in the majority, and the unpowered humans, called Minos, are being executed by Sumeragi’s Institute for the Promotion of Human Evolution. This is a pretty distinct change from the first two games, and it should set the stage for a dramatic conflict.

Now Copen is protecting the Minos while searching for something called The Butterfly Effect. He’s not doing so alone, and is accompanied by Lola, the rambunctious robot capable of transforming into a Muse via Idol Mode. She has been hailed the Muse of Hope by the very Minos they save. But it’s not all hearts and butterflies, since there’s a dangerous electrical Adept known as Blade on the loose. He’s a dangerous assassin working for Sumeragi with the sole goal of executing all Minos.

Something familiar about that guy…

Inti Creates isn’t known just for storytelling, but also for fantastic art and gameplay, and Luminous Avenger iX looks to have those in spades. Copen is still armed with a Photon laser gun, and he’s still capable of doing powerful techniques such as Bullit Dashes and Prevasion. And it wouldn’t be a Copen game without powerful EX Weapons he can copy from defeated foes. Together, it should make for a fast paced and dynamic combat system.

If you’re starting to get excited, and you should, then there’s good news. The wait for Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX isn’t that far away, as it’s slated to release September 26th, 2019. And it’s not just coming to Switch, but also Steam and PS4. Best of all, it’s very affordable at $14.99. So if you love platformers, Inti Creates or are just looking forward to a great new game, stay tuned in the coming months for this latest adventure in the Gunvolt series.
