Resonance of Fate is the latest Japanese game of the last generation to receive a re-release on a modern platform as well as PC with tri-Ace announcing the the launch of Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition on PlayStation 4 and PC.
Resonance of Fate takes place in the distant future. Mankind is nearing extinction and ruled by an environmental conservation device known as the Basel. The games three protagonists must uncover the truth behind this mysterious machine.
First released on for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360, Resonance of Fate was a tactical RPG with a focus on gunplay that draws insperation from a number of western films, such as The Matrix. Although critical reception was mixed, it’s unique gameplay and strong cast of characters did manage to win over some dedicated fans, and is maybe considered a bit of a cult classic.
Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition is out now on PS4 and Steam for $34.99 USD, and a 10% discount on Steam. It should be noted this release is digital only. Checkout tri-Ace’s press release below:
TOKYO: October 18, 2018 – Today Japan-based software developer tri-Ace announces the launch of Resonance of Fate in 4K HD, the digital-only remaster of its classic tactical gunplay role-playing game on PlayStation 4 and PC. The steampunk aesthetic, fateful story, soaring symphonic soundtrack, and intense gun combat for which the game is known now burst to life and play out in incredibly high resolution. All the action is set to a magnificent music score composed by Motoi Sakuraba and Kohei Tanaka.
Set in the distant future when humankind nears extinction and is ruled by the ‘Basel’ perpetual motion machine – a massive environmental conservation device of man’s own making run amuck; Resonance of Fate weaves a tale of guns and emotional bonds during this end of days. The game’s three protagonists – Zephyr, Vashyron, and Leanne, work as mercenaries and, through their missions uncover the truth behind the ruling Cardinals and Basel.
Originally released in early 2010 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms (and known as End of Eternity in Japan), Resonance of Fate received accolades for its ‘tri-attack’ battle system – a mix of real-time and turn-based controls; the focus on gun combat and gun customization; and its over-the-top cinematic hero actions of the main characters. Critics praised the gameplay and unique combat system that combines strategy with aerial gun battles and fast-paced thrills.
