Edelweiss, the same people who brought us games like Astebreed, and Fairy Bloom Freesia, released a trailer for their upcoming project Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.
Contrary to what the first few seconds of the trailer might lead you to believe, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, is not a chibi reskin of Resident Evil taking place in feudal Japan. Rather it’s a bit of a 2D action-platformer and farming sim hybrid, which I can’t really say I’ve seen before.
The player takes the role of Sakuna, a harvest goddess banished to a deserted island along with a small group of outcast humans. The island is crawling with evil demons trying to make life difficult for the new settlers, and you must make use of both her skills in growing rice as well as her skills in combat to make the new settlement prosper.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC this fall, and if you’re interested in hearing from someone with some first hand experience with this game go ahead and check out our very own Josh Speer’s impression from when he got to try it out over at E3.
