The official website for the KonoSuba anime announced that the franchise would be receiving an anime film. The director of the previous two seasons, Takaomi Kanasaki, will return for the film. The returning cast is as follows:

  • Jun Fukushima as Kazuma
  • Sora Amamiya as Aqua
  • Rie Takahashi as Megumin

Makoto Uezu will pen the script for the film and Koichi Kikuta will adapt the character designs for the film. Masato Kōda will compose the music.

KonoSuba is written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima. The novel is published by Kadokawa Shoten under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. The novel is licensed for release in North America by Yen Press. A synopsis of the first volume is provided by Yen Press and is as follows:

Game loving shut-in Kazuma Sato’s life as a young schoolboy in Japan abruptly comes to an early end…or at least it was supposed to. When he opens his eyes, though, he sees a beautiful goddess that offers him a once in an after-lifetime chance to be reborn in a parallel world. The catch is that the world is violent and threatened by a growing evil! Fortunately, he can choose any one thing to bring with him. So he chooses the goddess, Aqua! And so his adventure with his gorgeous companion begins–if he could just get enough money and food to survive, keep his goddess out of trouble, and avoid grabbing the attention of the Demon King’s army!

The light novels had inspired two TV anime seasons which aired in January 2016 and January 2017. Both seasons were produced by Studio DEEN.
