A new Pokémon spin-off was announced tonight for mobile and Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Quest. The free-to-play action RPG bears a boxy appearance with gameplay elements of Minecraft and Pokémon Rumble‘s brawling action. On Switch, it incorporates touch controls.

The aim of Pokémon Quest, according to the presentation, was to make games that are enjoyable by people playing Pokémon for the first time. You’ll explore a new land named Tumblecube Island and raise Pokémon however you want. It features the original 151 creatures from Kanto, but if Pokemon Go on mobile is anything to go by, more generations will be added later.

The core of tonight’s Pokémon conference was to discuss the franchise’s future for 2018 and 2019. More announcements, including the much-desired core series games for Nintendo Switch, are still to come. Pokémon Quest is available to download this evening for free with a batch of paid DLC.
