Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2

UPDATE: According to Nintenderos.com, Nintendo says this “shocking news” is a baseless rumor. This story has been widely reported, but only a couple other sites have reported this update so far. We’ll have to wait and see if Nintendo is doing some damage control or if something really happens on June 9th.

Nintendo has put out a cryptic tease in Jump magazine, hinting that some “shocking” Splatoon news is coming on June 9th. According to the mysterious tease, this project has been a work in progress behind the scenes. They didn’t say much more about it, other than saying that it will “shock the world”. It is noteworthy that the report interestingly said “Splatoon” rather than “Splatoon 2“. Most likely, this earth shaking news is relating to Spatoon 2, though.

The June 9th, date puts this breaking news just before E3, as E3 2018 is running from June 12-14. There is also the Splatoon 2 World Championship just before E3, which will be painting everything from June 11-12. We already know that the Octo Expansion is launching on July 31st, adding an 80-level single player campaign to the game. Beating it will allow you to play as an Octoling (male or female) in-game.

We’ll have to wait until June 9th to find out what exactly Nintendo’s big news is. It could be a number of things, like a Nintendo Direct showing off a part of the Octo Expansion that hasn’t yet been shown. It could also be a teaser trailer, but why not just announce it at E3? One reason could be that the subject matter of this announcement will be seen during the Splatoon 2 World Championship. In that case, it would make sense to announce it first to build some more hype around the event. Whatever the case may be, mark June 9th on your calendar and get ready to be shocked!

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
