While weekly content updates have been hitting Splatoon 2 since it launched, the biggest ones yet are headed to the game this week and next month. First up, on November 23, 140 pieces of new gear, four new Inkling hair styles, a new Salmon Run stage called Salmonid Smokeyard, and new battle music. The update will also come with an increased level cap from 50 to 99, with an option to reset to Level 1 with an added star, the ability to take photos with amiibo on battle stages, and the ability to change gear in-between matches, meaning you no longer have to return to the lobby to do so like before.
On November 24, a new stage called MakoMart will be added to the rotation, with three other stages to come in the future: the all new Shellendorf Institute and returning maps from the first Splatoon: Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall. Similar to all returning Splatoon maps, it looks like both throwback maps will be updated for Splatoon 2.
The second update will launch in mid-December and include a brand new Ranked Battle mode called Clam Blitz. This new mode has two teams of four collecting clams scattered across the map to put into the opposing team’s basket. The basket has a barrier that needs to be broken at first, and collecting 10 clams creates a Power Clam that can easily break the barrier. Splatting other opponents allows you to steal their clams, making for competitive matches.
Looks like Splatoon 2 will continue to grow as the year comes to a close. Similar to all updates other update to the game, these holiday updates are free for players to enjoy. Check out the trailer below for a closer look at the upcoming content, including brand new weapons.
