The April 12th Nintendo Direct outlined a new PvE mode for Splatoon 2, christened Salmon Run. In this horde-style mode, four players work together to harvest “Power Eggs” while fending off the advances of the egg’s parents, the Salmonid. The other major enemy you’ll have to contend with is the intimidating Steelhead, a foe whose defenses are tougher to penetrate.
When you fall in combat, a lifesaver (a literal life raft) can be deployed to call a partner to revive you. A rarer variety of Golden Eggs can also be harvested, fulfilling the ultimate objective of Salmon Run. Either type of egg gives players fresh rewards.
In addition, Splatoon 2 had its release date confirmed to be July 21st. On the same day, three new Splatoon amiibo will launch that allow for in-game customization and photo ops. All previously released Splatoon amiibo will also be compatible. Nintendo promises further updates on the sequel’s new additions before launch.
