Disturbing the Verse is a zero gravity 2D fighter that has fought its way onto Kickstarter, and Steam Greenlight. Pit 2-4 players against each other in a free-for-all or team match, with the last player or team standing declared winner. You start with 2 life tanks and once they are gone it’s game over, man.

Let’s take a look at a few key things about the game.

Characters

Every character has a unique play-style and set of attacks from the alien hippy to the private eye.

Check the Kickstarter page for more on characters.  Also available on Steam Greenlight

Modes

Other modes are planned for the game as well. You can’t very well have a fighting game without Arcade Mode! That seems to work like most do; fight, win, boss, done. Though there may be some easter eggs throw into the mix. Training mode sounds like it has all the bells and whistles that you could expect for training. Online modes are also planned (stretch goals, yo) and said to have tings like Exhibition, Ranked, and a Lobby Mode.

Story

Story mode is the last stretch goal. The Kickstarter page claims they have “very big plans for Story Mode”. I’m not sure why it would be last on the list of stretch goals if that is the case, but who am I to say? The plan is to create an “epic canon story that spans the ‘Verse.” We shall see won’t we?

Prototype

  • 1-2 players (player vs player, player vs punching bag, player vs CPU)
  • Basic gamepad/joystick support
  • One fully functional character: Cardinal
  • One arena: Botanical Garden on Charybdis Station
  • Try the prototype.

Check out the Kickstarter page (links above)  for any other information you might want on things like rewards, stretch goals, and all that. Oh! Before you go here is a pic that details the expense breakdown if you are into that sort of thing.

“Our budget for the prototype was $10,000. With that money, we were able to create the core mechanics of the game, basic controller support, basic UI, one fully functional 2D character and one 3D environment.

With your help, we can take Disturbing the Verse to the next level by adding more content and more polish at a faster pace. We’ll be able to step up our audio game and hire voice talent too.”
