2016 has come and gone, and overall it was a fantastic year for gaming. That being said, 2017 looks like it’s shaping up to be just as good, if not better! There are so many great games scheduled to come out next year, but I’ve managed to narrow it down to just a few. So in no particular order here are my most anticipated games of 2017.
Kingdom Hearts II.8
Of course, we start out with one of my favorite franchises. The final games leading up to Kingdom Hearts III, the final game in the much-beloved series. Kingdom Hearts 3D, Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, and Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage which is a story based entirely around Aqua. I suggest everyone give this series a try, and with the final cuts being added to the PS4 soon as well, the whole collection is just sitting there ripe for the taking.
Resident Evil VII: Biohazard
I absolutely adore horror games, but in today’s market, it’s hard to find a good horror game that isn’t completely full of cheap and overused jumpscares. This title seems like the most promising horror game that I’ve seen in a long time. For fans of the horror genre who are sick of nonsensical running and gunning, now’s your chance to play something just a little different.
Persona 5
There isn’t any way that I couldn’t put this on my list. I’ve been hooked on this series ever since my cousin let me play Persona 4 at his house. Since then I’ve gone back and played the other games in the series. The game is a mix of RPG gameplay, with a unique social aspect to it that really separates it from all the rest. I was ecstatic when this game got announced, and still can’t wait to play it!
Yooka-Laylee
The gaming world has been sorely lacking when it comes to 3D collect-a-thon platformers. That’s why everyone went ballistic when this game was announced, and it’s easy to see why. The game looks and feels like an old Rareware game, which people have been craving for years since Rare stopped making games like this.

Cuphead
It might just be wishful thinking at this point, but I really want this game. I’ve always been a huge fan of cartoons and animation, and this game just looks perfect. Most of my love comes from the style of this game, but the gameplay also looks very promising. I really want the chance to fall in love with this game, but with the constant delays, I’m afraid it won’t happen.
South Park: Fractured But Whole
Speaking of my love for cartoons, I have never laughed at a cartoon as much as I have at South Park. The first game was fantastic, so I can only wonder how good a sequel could be. I can’t wait to laugh at this game for hours on end.
Hiveswap
This is a game that not many people have heard about, and I wish they would have. I’ve read Homestuck since its inception, and it only made me hope for this game more. There isn’t much I could say to sell this to a non-Homestuck fan, but for someone who read it for years, it’s a dream come true.
Digimon World: Next Order
It’s been a good couple of years to be a Digimon fan. Everything in this game looks good from the art style to the gameplay. It feels great after being a fan of Digimon since I was a kid to be able to finally get games that perfectly epitomize the world of Digimon.
Oddworld: Soulstorm
Of course, this would be on my list, I’m a huge fan of the Oddworld series. This is a re-imagining of the second game in the series, Abe’s Exoddus. I loved the remake of the first game, and can only imagine what an enhanced copy of my favorite game could bring. It’s sort of strange, but it’s definitely a title that needed more love.
