It’s time once again for us to discover the baddest of the baddies. With so many great villains in gaming this year, it became increasingly difficult to narrow it down to just five. Somehow, we managed to do it by the skin of our teeth. So without any further ado, here are the Best Villains of 2016.
YHVH – Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
NA Release Date: September 20, 2016
Platform(s): 3DS
YHVH, otherwise known as Yehowah, is an important staple in the Shin Megami Tensei games. He is a very lawful being, but that also means that he feels almost no empathy towards anyone. He is ruthless and tyrannical, all in the name of law and order.
Star Dream – Kirby: Planet Robobot
NA Release Date: June 10, 2016
Platform(s): 3DS
Star Dream is a very powerful and malevolent being. Originally a machine created to grant wishes to people, it soon developed a mind of its own. Now it wants to exterminate all organic life, and our favorite pink ball is the only one that has any hope of stopping it.
Lily Lucalusa Shamony – Corona Blossom Vol. 2
NA Release Date: October 27, 2016
Platform(s): PC, Steam
Of course, since it’s the Oprainfall Awards, it’s very unsurprising that a girl from an 18+ game got on here. Lily is on here not because she’s evil beyond comprehension, more so that she’s adorable and really memorable. Sure she’s greedy and a bit tsundere, but she’s completely idiotic and is mocked for it constantly by her subordinates. She’s embarrassed about her chest size and is very dishonest about her feelings, but is so cute about it that it’s almost forgivable. She has good intentions, but overall she is a villain through and through.
Trillion – Trillion: God of Destruction
NA Release Date: March 29, 2016
Platform(s): PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, Steam
Without good, there is no evil. So, because Gods that create exist, there must also be Gods to destroy. This horrifying being has 1 trillion health in the game (because of course, he does), and when he attacks the entire map glows red. He is a being that was amassed when 1 trillion curses came together. His only purpose is to consume, which he does with ease. Every time he eats a Domain’s Core he grows in size, making him even more terrifying. To make matters worse he almost extinguished the entire Underworld. If that doesn’t terrify you, nothing will.
Lusamine – Pokemon Sun/Moon
NA Release Date: November 18, 2016
Platform(s): 3DS
The leader of the Aether Foundation, a seemingly pure organization that seeks to cure wounded Pokemon and protect them from the evil team skull. However, under all the good, their leader is hiding a somewhat sinister plot. Her obsession with the Ultra Beasts and their dimension drives her to do unspeakable things, under the guise of a helpful and seemingly innocent organization.
AND THE WINNER IS…
Lusamine – Pokemon Sun/Moon
Unlike most people on this list, Lusamine disguises the fact that she’s evil. As with anyone else looking for “paradise” in a game, she goes about it through completely terrifying means. She became obsessed with the Ultra Beasts and was willing to do anything to get into the Ultra Space. She even went as far as teaming up with a beast and potentially killing Cosmog just so she could have a portal into Ultra Space. She truly is the epitome of evil.
