Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia episode 2 is titled “Heart Hybrid”. The episode seems to try and deliver a bit more of the story to the viewer, but ultimately uses the episode to introduce a new heroin. Additionally, it doesn’t fall short on the ecchi action that the anime promotes.
Heart Hybrid begins with a description of the events that took place leading to the predicament that we find the human race in. Gate-like portals have opened up around the Earth. These gates allowed mech-like aliens to invade the planet. We are told that not all of the survivors were allowed on the new landmass, which would be the site of the human’s last stand. That scene is pretty depressing, but the anime quickly takes a turn to remind you that it’s also a comedy.
Once the heavy stuff got out of the way, Commander and Principal Reiri let the school know that if they would like to recharge their Heart Hybrid Gear they would have to engage in lewd activities with Kizuna. Now enter Hayuru Himekawa, who is the head of the moral committee. Although she seems to hate Kizuna for the acts he is committing, she comes to terms that he is just doing what he’s told.
However, the episode isn’t quiet about Hayuru. Reiri gives Kizuna a special devise that allows him to see the stats of the HHG users. She then makes him captain of team Amaterasu against his will. Their first mission together is to retrieve samples from an island. Kizuna gets to spend some alone time with third member of the group Yurishia Harandole. She’s an American with huge breasts and a lewd mind. We also see that Yurishia is very strong after she takes out a group of enemies during an invasion. After her energy is depleted, Kizuna is forced to Heart Hybrid with Yurishia which grants her the power to take out the remaining invader and save the day. Additionally, we get a glimpse of a possible villain who might of set the attack up. The episode ends with more possible secrets that Reiri is keeping from Kizuna.
Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia is becoming predictable, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like it. As of right now, I enjoy the characters interacting with each other and it’s good to see that they each have multiple sides of their personally. Too often do I see anime that creates a character just to play one role. It seems each girl has multiple characteristics that can be explored in later episodes. I also enjoyed the music during the fight scene, I thought it worked very well with the battle and stood out the most in terms of sound design in the entire episode. Currently, the anime might be trying to cram too much story and character development into the 20-minute episode. This is causing the action scenes to suffer and take a backseat in the episode. I’m eager to see what the designers can pull off in later episodes.
I’m sure in the next episode we will learn more about each girl and hopefully get some alone time with Miss. Morals, Hayuru Himekawa. I wouldn’t be able to end this review without mentioning Silvia Silkcut who is Kizuna’s assistant. Each scene she is in is quite comical and I’m curious to know how she grows as a character throughout the anime. Until next week readers!
