At the Sony E3 2016 press conference Hideo Kojima took the stage to unveil his newest game Death Stranding. What followed was a cinematic trailer of invisible hands marks in sand and on a very naked Norman Reedus. As we all know, Reedus was supposed to the star in Kojima’s cancelled Konami horror title Silent Hills. In the trailer, the Walking Dead actor cradles a baby and cries. But then the baby unwillingly vanishes and the camera pans up to show five figures in the sky.
I can only assume after watching the trailer that we are stuck in Kojima’s game… his mind game. He wants us to decipher and break down every millisecond of this trailer until our eyes bleed. He wants us to stay up late nights in forums arguing with fellow gamers who don’t share the same vision. What do I think? I think the trailer will be nothing like that final game and Kojima is once again trolling us all.
Kojima has a long track record of trolling the internet with teasers and jokes. I will never forget the time he made me stay up til 2 a.m. to watch an E3 2014 Twitch stream that he never showed up to. So, when it comes to his new teaser for Death Stranding, I say not this time Kojima! I will not fall into your little ploy to make me twist and turn at night thinking, “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?” It’s not like I assumed Reedus was holding that baby that could have been a metaphor for Metal Gear Solid and the tears that Reedus shed were really your own. I say no, Mr. Kojima, not this time!
I hope…
