Headpats, Please! is a new game in development that we thought our readers would be interested in. Please check out the official Headpats, Please! website for all development updates, now on to the interview!
The title of your game, Headpats, Please! Pretty much says it all, but can you explain the premise?
The idea behind the game is actually very simple. I just wanted to create something where players could pat adorable characters as much as they wanted!
How long has the game been in development? How big is the team?
The game has actually only been in development since February 5th, two days before I uploaded the first video which really exploded on twitter. Currently all development is being done by myself(I go by Oniony), although I do reach out to some friends to bounce ideas off of
How many characters are you planning on releasing with the finished game? And will there be males included?
At the moment I’m only planning on doing female. The game is planned to feature a single main character that the player will interact with. The player will be able to perform different actions such as headpatting, cheek-pulling, etc. As the game progresses, she will eventually open up more to the player causing new events to unlock which will play out in a visual-novel style format.
Has intrigued fans offered any feedback that you’re considering adding to the game?
Fans have offered lots of ideas! Some of which have been voice acting for the main character and various forms of customization I hadn’t considered, etc.
Awooo~! *pat pat*

Why do these characters enjoy their heads being patted?
Who doesn’t enjoy headpats, come on 😀
Has the recent removal of head pats in a certain Western release of a Nintendo game motivated you to finish the game for the players who crave to pat heads?
The headpats issue with a certain recent game was actually one of the inspirations for this game. It made me realize how many people really wanted to be able to pat cute characters!
Will the game feature different settings and music?
Yes, the game will feature different settings, including, hopefully, a bounciness setting. [laughs] As for music, the game will indeed feature music but it’s too early in development to determine how much.
What platform do you plan on releasing the game on?
Our primary release platform is going to be mobile. After much consideration, mobile is the best choice because it allows players to actually pat the character with their fingers. You get that tactile response. This also allows for patting on the go! I’m also playing around with haptic feedback, so we’ll see how that goes. In addition to mobile, I will also release a port of the game on windows/mac in some form.
What would you say to the any haters of head patting?
Haters of headpats? They’re really missing out!
If you could give a head pat to any character, who would it be?
If I could give a headpat to any character it’d have to be Renge-chan from Non-Non Biyori. She’s such a quirky character, I think she’d appreciate it.
Gamers seem to be divided between liking headpatting and thinking it’s weird. Why should people give head pats a chance?
People should give headpats a chance because they’re just a pure form of affection. Not as intimate as a kiss, but more intimate than a hug. Right in the middle! I think people who are against headpats have never been patted before.
Have you encountered any difficulties developing Headpats, Please!?
I did develop lots of difficulties. The biggest being which direction I wanted to take the game. One customize-able character vs 3-5 set design characters for the player to pat. Ultimately I decided to go with the customization route because fans have been asking me for so many varied characters to be added, I figured I’d let them build them themselves!
Is the character based off of any character or is she original?
The current character is an original character who I designed just to be the poster girl for the game. I’ll use her for promotions and for posting new content mostly. Her name is officially Headpats-Chan.
Is there anything else you would like to say to fans?
Anything I want people to know? I’m very passionate about the games I create. I work on them in most of my spare time and get obsessed to an incredible degree. Headpats is no different. I plan to make this the best headpatting game I possibly can! Please look forward to playing!
