First a Few Special Mentions for Our Audience

A Boy and His Blob – PS4 Digital (PS Vita 1/21)

A Boy and His Blob

The New(er) version of the classic platform game “A Boy and His Blob” makes it’s premier on PSN this week.  The original was a bit esoteric, but still fondly considered a gem.  And the remake definitely captures the spirit of the original release but with a few modern conventions and a much prettier aesthetic.  It doesn’t look like there is any additional content from it’s Nintendo release, however special attention to the fact that this is also releasing on the Vita as well this week.

Atelier Escha & Logy Plus ~Alchemists of the Dusk Sky~ – PS Vita Digital

Atelier Escha & Logy Plus

Speaking of the PS Vita (and it’s supposed lack of games), we have a new Atelier game released on the beloved handheld system this week.  As the picture illustrates, there is two playable characters, there is also a new mixing system and now six player battles.  For many of us die hard jrpg fans, this series has been quite the reliable source of fun over the years with their relatively frequent releases.

Croixleur Sigma – PS4 Digital

Croixleur Sigma

This indie game was previously on Steam and is now coming to the PSN.  It’s an anime style hack and slash game.  You can kind of consider it a cross between the old Y’s games and the tower mode in Devil May Cry 3.  Don’t expect much story, but do expect a lot of cute girls kicking butt.

Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) – PS4 Digital

Dark Cloud 2

This release is a rather exiting one.  When the original Dark Cloud released on the PS2 classics a short time ago, many people (including your’s truly) were wondering about this gem.  The first game certainly has it’s fans, but this is where Level 5 really hit their stride with making games.  And the development of this game also strongly influenced their take on Dragon Quest VIII when Square-Enix brought them on board.  This is quite a wonderful game and a true classic, so if you haven’t played it, strongly consider picking this one up.  I doubt you will be disappointed.  Like the other PS2 classic releases, it will have some updated texture mapping and trophy support.  A great choice for this week.

Resident Evil 0 – PS4, PS3 Digital

Resident Evil 0

This is a remaster of the original Gamecube game including much improved graphics and sound.  The game is a prequel to the original survival horror classic.  They used the engine for the Gamecube remaster of the original Resident Evil and created a new story.  It is generally well regarded, but still not quite considered up to the par of RE 1 & 2.  But for our audience who are more into the classic versions of Resident Evil more than the modern incarnations, this is a welcome return to that form.
