Samurai Shodown II | Victoly

Humble Bundle has announced a new deal featuring a plethora of amazing games from SNK’s heady Neo Geo days. If you ever wanted to own any of these top notch fighters and shooters, now is your chance to get them at a veritable steal. Long time gamers will remember the Neo Geo for being the system that brought arcade perfect experiences into your living room, albeit at a substantial cost. As the proud owner of 3 Neo Geo home systems (called AES in some circles) and 24 cartridges (all Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and King of Fighters games released on the platform as well as Samurai Shodown 1-3) I can confirm that the hype was real. But you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars (literally) to enjoy the games in the bundle. In fact, ten bucks gets you all of these games on PC (via Steam codes):

  • Art of Fighting 2
  • Fatal Fury Special
  • King of the Monsters
  • Metal Slug 2
  • Samurai Shodown II
  • Sengoku 3
  • King of Fighters 2000
  • Baseball Stars 2
  • The Last Blade
  • Pulstar
  • Metal Slug
  • Metal Slug 3
  • Shock Troopers
  • Neo Turf Masters
  • King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition (technically not a Neo Geo title, but the original KOF ’98 was on the platform)
  • Twinkle Star Sprites
  • Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad
  • Samurai Shodown V Special
  • Garou: Mark of the Wolves
  • Metal Slug X
  • The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (again, not a Neo Geo game but the original KOF 2002 was)

The Metal Slug games will likely be the biggest draw in this collection, but there are some great games in here you don’t want to miss. The King of Fighters titles offered have gameplay that rivals the best of the genre and should provide endless hours of fighting fun with their mammoth rosters and intricate mechanics, Samurai Shodown II is widely considered the best in that series and is recognized as being among the best fighting of all ime, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is universally hailed as an underappreciated marvel of fighting brilliance and the Shock Troopers series is excellent at the run and gun play style but never quite got the love it deserved. Can you tell I’m a major fan of the Neo Geo?

It’s not just the games that make this an amazing bundle, however. You also get a nifty soundtrack celebrating 25 years of Neo Geo greatness, and I’ll swear by the music these games had. I probably have most of this soundtrack spread out over 30 different CDs already, but I can definitely vouch for their quality.

If you spend $40 on the bundle, you also get a commemorative 25th Anniversary Neo Geo T-shirt with the good ol’ Metal Slug SV-001 tank on it.

This is probably one of the best deals Humble Bundle’s ever offered, and you could do a lot worse things with your money than pick up this amazing batch of games by clicking here and buying in. I know I’m going to.
