Earlier it was announced that the light novel series, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (Hai to Gensō no Grimgar or Grimgar le Monde des cendres et de fantaisie), would be receiving an anime adaptation. A PV was streamed by TOHO Animation which announced the adaptation. The adaptation is set to premiere in January 2016. You can check out the PV announcing the adaptation below.
The anime adaptation will be produced by A-1 Pictures. The anime will be directed by Ryosuke Nakamura. Nakamura is known for directing and writing the scripts for Aiura as well as directing Mōryō no Hako. Nakamura will also be writing the scripts for Grimgar’s anime. The character designs will be handled by Mieko Hosoi. Hosoi has previously worked on Psychic School Wars and Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū.

Living, isn’t easy.
When Haruhito awakens, he’s in the dark.
He doesn’t know where he is, why is he here, and where he came from.
Around him there are several men and women who have the same circumstances.
Together, they advance forward away from the darkness, and a world they’ve never seen before called “Grimgar” spreads out before them.
Memories, money, special powers — This is the reality we who have none of those things have obtained.

The original light novels were authored by Ao Jumonji and illustrated by Eiri Shirai. The first volume was published in June 2013 by Overlap Bunko.
