Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax

In case you didn’t know (and if you visit this site, what’s your excuse), Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a 2D fighting game bringing characters together from different ‘light novels’ in the Dengeki Bunko publishing family and also adding characters from a few of publisher Sega’s most well regarded franchises. You might have heard of some of these properties: A Certain Scientific Railgun, Sword Art Online, Accel World, The Devil is a Part-Timer, Virtua Fighter and Valkyria Chronicles, to name a few. Well, in Dengeki Bunko: Figithing Climax, characters from these franchises and more will do battle because of an ominous organization called ‘Zetsumu’ and their machinations. It’s up to you and the character you choose to put an end to this insidious scheme. The game first debuted in Japanese arcades in 2014 and later that same year came to Japanese PS Vita and PS3 owners, and has received numerous updates to the game play and character rosters over time. The game was popular enough that it received an arcade update called Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Clmax Ignition in July of this year that added more characters and game balancing. Ignition was recently confirmed for home consoles (PS3, PS Vita and PS 4) in Japan this December.

Here in North America and also in Europe, we’re getting the latest build of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax next week and to give us a taste of what we can expect, Sega has released a new trailer showing some of the characters we’ll be seeing in the game along with some of their hard hitting attacks  and assist character combos. Take a look at the new preview below!

And if this looks like it’s up your alley, check out the first character roster trailer too!

As a long time fighting game fan that was part of the Street Fighter generation and who also adored the Neo Geo fighting scene of the 90s and early 2000s, from where I’m standing this game looks like it might have the chops to measure up to some of the genre’s greats. It’s sure to be a hit with  anime and ‘light novel’ fans that can’t get enough of these properties. I think I’m more excited about the Valkyria Chronicles characters than anything else!

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is coming to Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita in North America and Europe on October 6th, 2015. It’s published by Sega and developed by Ecole Software and French Bread.  Both studios worked on  Melty Blood and Under Night In-Birth, two series which excel as anime themed 2D fighters. As an extra thank you to launch edition buyers, Sega is including a soundtrack CD. Get ’em while you can!
