Classic point-and-click adventure games have gotten an immense amount of support thanks to the Kickstarter medium. And it doesn’t seem like the craze is gonna be stopping anytime soon. One of the most recent efforts in the genre is Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure. This series has been around for quite some time, and the last entry in the Tex Murphy series was released nearly 16 years ago. Worst of all, it ended with a cliffhanger! Thanks to Kickstarter, developer Big Finish Games was able to bring it back with an all-star cast featuring actors and actresses from many old TV shows and even the original Tex Murphy.
Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure was released May 8th, 2014, to positive uproar. (Staff writer Guy Rainey quite liked it, too.) The game features the original twang the series is known for, with a fresh story based in a dystopian San Francisco in 2050. Even though the game has been on the GOG and Steam digital fronts for a few weeks, the devs haven’t put the nail in the coffin just yet. Currently, Big Finish Games is hard at work implementing Oculus Rift support into the game, which will be out “soon.” Now, that will be quite the experience. A point-and-click adventure played using the Oculus Rift just sounds mind-boggling—in a good way. All this was revealed in their most recent Kickstarter update.
But that wasn’t all! Due to the positive feedback on Tesla Effect, Big Finish Games will be having a sale on their game on both GOG and Steam on different dates. GOG’s sale is on June 13th, while Steam’s sale will be June 20th. In the meantime, there’s a Steam sale right now on all the past Tex Murphy games until June 19th.
For those who haven’t picked up this game, will the sales be just enough to warrant a purchase of Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure? For those who have already bought it, what’s your opinion on the Oculus Rift support? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
