At their E3 2014 Media Briefing event today, Microsoft announced a new title in the Phantom Dust franchise with a world premiere teaser trailer. The exciting trailer shows two people doing battle in the ruins of a destroyed city, and is the first glimpse we’ve seen of a new Phantom Dust after months of rumor and speculation. The game will simply be titled Phantom Dust. Check out the trailer below.
As of right now, very little information is available beyond the title of the game and the fact that it exists. Due to the title, it is unclear whether this will be a sequel, a remake of the original, or a reboot. The game will be launching exclusively on the Xbox One.
The original Phantom Dust was a unique card-battling action game for the original Xbox. Developed by Microsoft Game Studios, the game was directed by Yuko Futatsugi, best known for his work as director of the critically acclaimed titles Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and Panzer Dragoon Saga. The game was released to good reviews but poor sales, and has since become a cult hit. Speculation about the announcement of a sequel has been swirling for quite some time, so it’s good to see this franchise is being brought back from the dead.
This is exciting news for fans of the franchise and for Yuko Futatsugi’s other works. Be sure to stay tuned to oprainfall for more news about the brand new Phantom Dust and for all your E3 2014 needs!
